Using the checker

The PacketReady checker is free to use for any lawful purpose, including checking documents for your employer or your clients. It runs in your browser; you are responsible for the files you choose to check and for keeping your own copies.

What the results mean

The checker performs automated tests. Automated testing cannot confirm everything that accessibility standards require, such as a logical reading order, accurate alternate text or sufficient color contrast. A result of "Looks good (automated checks)" means only that the automated tests found no problems. It is not a certification that a document conforms to WCAG, PDF/UA, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 or any other law or standard.

The checker can also be wrong: it may miss problems or flag things that are not problems. Use its results as one input alongside manual review.

Sharing reports

You may share, print and file the reports the checker produces, for example with your web team, a vendor or your board. Please share them as they are: do not describe a report as a certification, an audit or a statement of legal compliance, and keep the date and the "automated checks only" wording with it.

The guides on this site summarize public sources and link to them. They are general information, not legal advice, and reading them does not create any professional relationship. For decisions about your legal obligations, consult your attorney.

No warranty

The website and checker are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy. To the fullest extent the law allows, PacketReady and its founders are not liable for any damages arising from use of the website or checker.

Acceptable use

Please do not attempt to disrupt the site, submit automated or bulk form entries, or use the forms to send spam or unlawful content.

Remediation services

Paid remediation work, including the pilot for public bodies described on the remediation page, is provided under a separate written agreement that sets out scope, turnaround and price. If that agreement conflicts with these terms, the agreement controls for the services it covers.

Content and open-source software

The text and design of this site belong to PacketReady. You may quote or link to the guides with attribution. The checker uses open-source software under its own licenses: PDF.js 6.3.289 (Apache License 2.0) and pdf-lib 1.17.1 (MIT License); license files are published with the site.

Your files

Files you check are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to PacketReady. Because we never receive them, we cannot recover them, and you remain responsible for any confidential information they contain. The privacy page explains what our analytics and forms collect.

Links to other websites

Guides and results link to outside sources such as the Federal Register, ADA.gov and the W3C so you can read the originals. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or availability.

Availability and changes

We may change, add or remove checks and pages, or pause the site for maintenance, without notice. Results can change between versions as checks improve, so keep the downloaded report if you need a record of what was found on a given date.

Feedback

If you send suggestions or bug reports, you agree that we may use them to improve PacketReady without obligation to you. Please do not include confidential documents in feedback.
